Who would have thought that Riverside could be so much fun?

Yesterday, Ray and I went to Riverside to visit Mitch. Riverside was dang HOT. Stepping out of the air-conditioned car, I could feel this massive blanket of heat just surround and overwhelm me. I felt real bad for people who have to take summer school at UCR.

I wasn't expecting much from my trip. After all, it is Riverside. But, there were two notable points of interest which made my stay there quite enjoyable.

The first is Casino Morango in Cabazon. This was my first time gambling at a casino so I was really excited. My plan was to make enough money to buy shoes from the Nike or Reebok outlets nearby. I played at the blackjack tables, and in the first 10 minutes, I immediately lost 20 dollars. So far, pretty cruddy... I tried my luck at the slot machines, and after 20 minutes, my remaining 10 bucks went down the drain. I had lost 30 dollars in 30 minutes, and I was miserable. How I hated gambling! My friends and I had lost all our money but we could not make ourselves leave the casino. I could not leave defeated like this. I think we waited an hour just looking around and getting as many free drinks as we could, in a pathetic attempt to earn our money back. Finally, I could not stand it anymore and I went to the ATM and pulled out 80 bucks. (Yes, I am an idiot.) I went back to another blackjack table and began to play once more. A funny thing happened...I won and I won and I kept winning. I was on a roll!!! It was such an exhilirating feeling. By the time I was done, I was giddy looking at my stack of chips. I made 50 bucks on that winning spree, putting me 20 dollars up. And although that wasn't much (some UCR student shek won $10,500 because he got four natural blackjacks in a row), I had a great time. Wonderful, I think I'm addicted...

The second point of interest was an exit off the 60 freeway by the name of Nason Street. What's crazy about this place is that there is a magical hill. Yeah, there's a magical hill in Riverside of all places... Basically, if you leave your car on neutral (after having completely stopped) at the base of the hill, your car will gradually climb up the hill against gravity. I was thoroughly perplexed and amazed (although some people don't seem to share in my excitement...brat). After a few trials, we got out of the car and conducted experiments of our own. We tested out empty bottles and such, and lo and behold, they rolled up the hill. Then we put the car on neutral and pushed against the car as it rolled up the hill. We could stop the car, but once we stopped pushing against it, the wheels would magically begin turning again and the car would ascend the hill. Apparently, not too many people know about this because a couple pedestrians walked by looking at us strangely and one even offered to help us push our car. Hahaha... I wasn't embarrassed...no, not at all...
